Help students make personal connections with curricula and delve deeply into a topic in this fascinating workshop bending, folding and rolling paper into sculptural models.


In this workshop, educators will manipulate paper by folding, bending and cutting to create three-dimensional works of art that represent objectives from across the curriculum. Thomas’ workshops guide participants in translating concepts from history, science and math objectives into visual works of art.

Let’s Build! actively engage educators in a deep art experience to gain the knowledge and skills needed to give their student builders and non-traditional learners a voice using paper sculpture.

Kay Thomas bio

Visual Artist Kay Thomas is a national teaching artist with 35 years of experience in arts integration. She is a designer/presenter of art workshops for teachers and integrated arts experiences for students from Pre-K through university in Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, California and Pennsylvania.

In her workshops, Thomas emphasizes the value of artistic inquiry in developing new classroom teaching strategies and higher order thinking skills. Most recently, she was added to the Kennedy Center’s national roster of teacher workshop presenters. Thomas is also the visual teaching artist for the ArtsSmart Institute for Learning, where she continues to design integrated art activities with variable solutions for students.
